Hoes Down Harvest Festival
Last weekend we drove up to west of Sacramento to Hoes Down, the annual harvest festival at Full Belly farm (the farm we get our CSA box from). It was great to see the earth where our fruits and veggies are grown and to see the people that plant, grow, and pick them for us. There was a lot going on: wheat grinding, corn husking, wool felting, apple bobbing, hay bale climbing, tractor riding, square dancing, creek wading, pumpkin carving, dunk tanking (with a cool little slide for the kids), and lots of yummy food. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be going back next year (if we're still here, but that's another story). Enjoy the pictures from our sweet, harvest-y day.
Molly loves to play in the grass. She picks up the blades very gently.
Playing the grass! Notice the tractor in the background.
She decided she wanted to try a new food: lettuce!
"Hmm, tastes...interesting."
Lettuce leaf in hand
All smiles after our picnic in the orchard
Molly decided her wooden rattle (and her daddy) were preferable to the lettuce
Lookin' at some chickens
We painted a prayer flag with somebody's initials and a moon
She discovered some wool (and we saw the sheep it came from)
Hay bale climbing structure
Lots of fun people, kids, and babies
Pumpkin patch, corn maze, and hills
There was a Tipi!
So of course we had to go inside
And proceed to crawl around after a little boy
And play with Daddy
There were pumpkins!
We bought a magical sunflower ribbon wand that she loved (and then we promptly lost it).
Square dancing (the Virginia Reel, I think)
Daddy's getting lost in the cornfield maze...
But Molly isn't too far behind!
"So, why did the rooster cross the road?"
"To get to Hoes Down at Full Belly Farm, of course!" Happy Fall!
